This stunning statue of the dancing God Shiva holds a special place in my collection. As a young traveler in the early 1990s, I had little money to spare and sought affordable collectibles.
I chanced upon this beautiful piece while visiting Bentota, Sri Lanka. I remember seeing it in a small store just before a bridge that crossed the Bentota River.
The price quoted by the seller was high, so I decided to leave. Walking through the streets, I noticed a young man following me. He had been carrying the Shiva statue and following me, since I left the store near the bridge. He offered the statue to me at a price too reasonable to resist. The statue is made of red and gold copper and has a special place in my heart.
