Bust of An African Long-Neck Woman

I welcome this Lady to the Africa section of my collection. This woodcarving portrays an African woman, whose origin I believe to be from Benin, although it can be challenging to determine the exact origins of many African woodcarvings.

The arbitrary borders drawn by colonial rulers during and after colonization disrupted the traditional habitats of many tribes. Based on my research, I believe this Lady is from West Africa, but I also note that in the northern part of South Africa, the Ndebele tribe practices the culture of long-necked women as a symbol of beauty.
